Dimple Kapadia

Forgotten Hotties: Dimple Kapadia
Of the umpteen glam icons that Bollywood has seen over the years, no one has been as instant a hit with the teens as Dimple Kapadia was. Her debut vehicle 'Bobby' (1973) became a Calf Love classic, and contributed the narrative template on which many future hits such as 'Love Story' (1980), 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988) and 'Maine Pyar Kiya' (1989) were constructed.
Dimple had her Cinderella moment when the then superstar of Indian Cinema, Rajesh Khanna, proposed to her in 1973. Post marriage, Dimple was whisked away from limelight, and had to play Mrs. Khanna for 12 long years! She was re-launched by Ramesh Sippy in 1985, and went on to redefine glam and erotica in films such as a 'Saagar', 'Jaanbaaz' and 'Drishti'.
However, the Dimple Kapadia of 2010 would most certainly be claimed by the votaries of "serious cinema"; her intense portrayals in the award-winning 'Rudaali', 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Being Cyrus' and 'Luck By Chance' have endeared her to the cineaste.

Dimple Chunnibhai Kapadia was born on June 8, 1957, to Gujarati entrepreneur Chunnibhai Kapadia and Betty.

Dimple was discovered by Raj Kapoor, who introduced her in his 1973 movie, 'Bobby'.

Dimple was 16 years old when she married Rajesh Khanna. Despite the tremendous success of 'Bobby', Dimple left movies to raise her children.

After divorcing Khanna in 1984, she returned with 'Saagar' (1985), opposite her 'Bobby' co-star, Rishi Kapoor.

'Saagar' featured Dimple in topless shot which, though a brief one, created a furore.

Dimple teased the prudes again in Feroz Khan's 'Jaanbaaz', which had a steamy liplock featuring her and Anil Kapoor.

Dimple changed tracks in the 1990s and won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Kalpana Lajmi's 'Rudaali' (1993).

She was praised for her performance as an alcoholic in Farhan Akhtar's 'Dil Chahta Hai' (2001), starring Aamir Khan.

In 2005, she was again seen on screen with Rishi Kapoor, in 'Pyaar Mein Twist'.
