Khushboo started her career in the 1980s as a child artiste. Though she debuted with 'Thodisi Bewafaii' in 1980, she had her first credited role in 'Laawaris' (1981).

Khushboo was introduced to South Indian films by "Crazy star" Ravichandran in Kannada.

Post her marriage to Sundar C, Khushboo has kept herself busy with many TV shows. She was on the jury of 'Maanaada Mayilaada', a reality show based on dance.

One of Khushboo's earliest Tamil films was Kamal Haasan-Prabhu starrer 'Vetri Vizha'. Khushboo later starred in Kamal's 'Singaravelan' and 'Michael Madana Kama Rajan'.

Khushboo made her debut in Tamil with Rajnikanth starrer 'Tharmathi Thalaivan' (1988). She went on to act with Rajnikanth in films such as 'Annamalai' and 'Nattukoru Nallavan'. Recently, she made an appearance in 'Kuselan'

In 2005, Khushboo landed in a controversy when she said that it was fine for girls to have pre-marital sex, if they take enough precautions. Later, she added that no educated man should expect his wife or girlfriend to be a virgin. Two political parties lashed out at her because of her remarks, and provoked 22 criminal cases against her.

Many products have been named after her, including a special type of idli, 'Khushboo Idli'.
